What are the advantages of a Virtual Server?

The main advantage of the VPS technology resides in the fact that each Virtual Server can benefit from the full power of a real server, at a fraction of the cost of a physical server of equivalent performance.

Is Quality of Service guaranteed?

Yes, Quality of Service (QoS) is guaranteed by the fact that the physical resources are allocated in an extremely precise manner (CPU time, disk space, I/O, etc.) to each Virtual Server. This guarantees the performance of each indivdual server and prevents service degradation. In general, the quality of service of a Virtual Server is better than that of a physical server due to the fact that the physical hardware is generally higher-performance (2-4 processors, RAID5 disks, dual power, four-port network cards, etc.).

What operating systems can be installed on a Virtual Server?

On Xen-based virtual servers, all Linux distributions are supported. Windows-based systems (Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, etc.) are supported on our VMware ESX-based virtual servers.

Can I install (or compile) software packages of my choosing?

Yes, you can install anything you like. Our Virtual Servers work just like a real server.

How many Virtual Servers (VPS) are installed per physical server?

The number of Virtual Servers that SwissCenter runs per physical server depends on the system load. This permits us to guarantee a very high quality of service for each client.

Can other users crash the server?

No, the advanced virtualization technology in use allows for complete and reliable isolation of each VPS. An accident or error that happens in one VPS has no impact on the other VPS.

Is there a means to safeguard my VPS?

Yes, we offer a safeguard service as an option. You can also implement security safeguards by your own means (FTP, rsync, etc.).

My server is no longer responding. What can I do?

You can stop your virtual server through the management interface. This will allow the server, together with all of its service to properly restart.

Can I provide mass hosting?

Mass hosting of Internet sites for resale purposes is not normally allowed on virtual servers. Please contact us for more details or for a possible exemption.
